For People Working in the Wind Industry
GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) is the first step to a career in the wind sector. Consisting of 5 modules, it has been created to give wind turbine personnel the essential skills and knowledge required to support and care for themselves and others while operating in the field.
Target Group
Personnel who will be working in the wind industry or related fields and will carry out their duties in a wind turbine environment, usually in physical contact with a wind turbine or offshore wind structure.
Prerequisites
Delegates shall have created a personal Delegate profile in WINDA and provide their own WINDA ID prior to completing the BTT training. Valid GWO WINDA ID: https://winda.globalwindsafety.org/
Examination
Upon completion of the course, delegates will be awarded with GWO approved certification for all 5 modules.
Certification for each module is valid for 2 years. Prior to expiry delegates must undertake GWO Basic Safety Training Refresher to remain certified.
Course Contents
FIRST AID: Learn to administer safe and effective First Aid in the wind turbine industry/ WTG environment and to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
MANUAL HANDLING: Encourage positive Manual Handling and ergonomic behaviour, encourage delegates to consider alternatives to manual handling through planning and to train delegates ability to perform Manual Handling tasks in a safe manner in the wind turbine industry/environment.
FIRE FIGHTING: Learn basic firefighting knowledge and skills and be able to prevent fires, evaluate fires and plan accordingly, manage evacuation of personnel and efficiently extinguish an initial fire by using basic hand held firefighting equipment.
WORKING AT HEIGHTS: Learn to use basic personal protective equipment and perform safe work at heights and safe and comprehensive basic rescue from heights in a remote wind turbine environment.
SEA SURVIVAL: Learn the basic knowledge and skills to act safely and take the correct preventive actions in all aspects of offshore operations from shore to installation vessel or WTG and vice versa, both during normal operation and in an emergency in an offshore wind energy environment.

GWO BST Blended Learning

A GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) Blended Learning course is the same training as a normal GWO BST but delivered as a blended model of learning where you familiarise yourself with essential knowledge based content in your own time, ahead of the practical training.
The blended learning courses and modules are designed in strict alignment with the GWO Standard, and have recently been certified by Bureau Veritas for delivery across our training centres in Denmark, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK.
How it works
Participants have upfront access to their selected e-learning modules for up to 30 days prior to attendance of the associated onsite practical training.
The upfront, self-paced, e-learning covers the theoretical, knowledge and understanding components of the course, which would traditionally be delivered in a classroom by an instructor.
